Tado is a manufacturer of smart home thermostats and air conditioning control solutions with advanced tracking and remote control capabilities. Tado also provides a tado° mobile application that allows users to control their heating and air conditioning, including the systems from other providers. Tado° app makes it easier to control these devices and their energy consumption, as well as adding new capabilities such as data export.
Tado’s smart thermostat and AC control systems, as well as third-party solutions supported by Tado app, are gathering vast amounts of data, related not just to temperature measurements but also residents detection and other parameters. This data can be exported and analysed for various purposes. Clarify makes it easy to organize this information, access it remotely via mobile app or share it with other people.
Tado is a German company founded in 2011 in Munich by Christian Deilmann, Johannes Schwarz and Valentin Sawadski with a goal to produce advanced and connected smart thermostat systems that would be able to automatically in real-time mode adjust to the behavior of residents in private homes and commercial spaces.
Tado’s first product is tado° Heating, a smart thermostat solution controlled with the Tado app. It was released in 2012 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, following the release in the United Kingdom in 2013.
Tado’s second electronic product, Smart AC Control with advanced automatic cooling control capabilities, was launched in Europe and the USA in 2015.
Tado’s main products are the tado° Heating smart thermostat, tado° Smart AC Control system, and the tado° app.
The most important feature of Tado’s smart home solutions is the ability to detect the absence or presence of residents in the building, adjusting the heating or air conditioning accordingly. This capability is based on using the geofencing technology, which allows the automated system to track residents through their phones using GPS, RFID, Wi-Fi or cellular data. When a mobile device or RFID tag enters or exits a specified virtual perimeter, a pre-programmed action can be triggered (turning on/off the heating). Tado’s smart heating system also takes into account other parameters when regulating the temperature, such as weather forecast and the type of home (construction materials, insulation and other factors influencing its heating properties).
Tado’s app was designed to support various third-party smart systems along with the company's own products. According to Tado, today their application can be integrated with over 5,000 heating systems from various vendors.
Smart AC Control is the second major product of Tado. This smart air conditioning control system is able to turn the air conditioning on when the presence of residents is detected and turn it off when they leave.
The Tado app also provides users with manual control over the air conditioning and heating systems via their phones. Since 2017, when Tado was integrated with Google Assistant, Tado’s solutions support voice commands.
